I highly recommend this tour. Elena has put a lot of thought into constructing a thorough and comprehensive tour covering the Soviet history of Moldova and Chisinau. She interwove more general facts with personal family history and linked these to specific relevant sites. The pacing of the tour was good and included a mix of walking, buses and taxis. This is a great tour to get to know Moldovan history and its people in greater depth.
This was a great tour on Soviet architecture that also touched on the history and culture of that era. Elena was great, and even introduced us to some Moldovan desserts. We especially enjoyed the cocktail bar at the end of the tour and stayed for another round.
I told Elena straight after the tour: it was like winning the lottery to have her with us today. Why? She’s really lovely, knows absolutely everything about the history of the country and the Soviet Union, and is witty and intelligent. She knows the city inside out (she was born and raised here) and even had answers to questions that popped into our heads on the spot. She makes the tour itself very varied (lovely walks, bus and taxi rides) and gives a clever summary after each of the three sections (the founding, “the golden age” and the collapse of the Soviet Union), and at the end we’re treated to a nightcap in a truly first-class bar.
